We offer the experience of a lifetime:
Capturing a Piraiba is considered to be one of the toughest tests in the world of sports fishing. Only a few people have managed to catch a catfish of record proportions. Besides local guides, the success of your expedition is guaranteed by Jakub Vagner, one of Europe’s most respected fishermen and an expert on freshwater giants, who has acted as a fishing guide for thirteen years. Thanks to his advice and experience you will have a chance to add one of the rarest fishes in the world to your trophy list.
Your quest for Piraiba will be located in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, or Brazil, with the specific location being decided at the time of the expedition, mainly according to current weather conditions. Fishing takes place in the evening and morning hours, when the chances of catching the Piraiba are greatest. Each fisherman has his own boat, driver, assistant, and professional guide, who will provide information necessary, not only for a successful catch, but also on how combat this extremely strong fish. During the day, when the fishing is not as productive, you can devote your time to catching other interesting species of fish (Peacock Bass, Redtail Catfish, Trahira, and of course Piranhas).
The expedition also includes other attractions as well. The environment in which fishing takes place is not a traditional tourist destination. You will see the kind of nature that you have read about in adventure novels or seen in documentaries. In addition to fishing, you will get a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the nature of Amazonia and its unique flora and fauna. As guides, you will have local Indians whose lifestyle has not changed much since the original days. They can introduce you to the secrets of natural medicine, teach you how to procure food or drinking water in the forest, demonstrate to you how to make the currare poison, and teach you to fish with spears and blowpipes. Thanks to VIP Fishing Trips, you will not only get to catch one of the world's rarest and largest freshwater fish, but also experience an environment that you will not forget for the rest of your life.
Expedition Price for 2011 (10 days of fishing)
The expedition is conducted so as to allow each participant to have the maximum chance of success. For this reason, each expedition is limited to 4 persons, which allows us to guarantee a personal approach to each of the fishermen. We will only increase numbers at the express wish of the client.
The Piraiba migrates several thousand kilometres along the rivers and it is very difficult to locate. For this reason the expedition includes 10 days of fishing and 2 days of travelling, but we can tailor any trip to fit your schedule. To catch a Piraiba we recommend at least 10 days of intensive fishing. The length of stay depends on you, but please note that the expedition price is for a minimum of 10 days. During the expedition, accommodation is provided in an Indian village, where you will find traditional Indian homes equipped to European standards. Toilets and showers are provided. On board each boat tents are available. Dishes of local and international cuisine will be prepared by our chef. If you wish, customised menus prior to departure are possible to arrange.
Available expedition times:
